The Bernd Thies Foundation supports projects for the research and conservation of large carnivores and their habitats, with a focus on Europe.
The Bernd Thies Foundation’s first priority is to support concrete conservation projects as well as practice-oriented research projects for the conservation of the wolf in Europe. This focus of the foundation’s purpose goes back to the founder Bernd Thies, who died in 1988, and who shortly before his death acquired a plot of land in Portugal on which he wanted to build a wolf centre.
On the following pages you will find information on the purpose of the Foundation, the procedure for funding applications and the assessment criteria of the Foundation Council. You will also gain insight into the projects regularly supported by the Bernd Thies Foundation, as well as information on the founder and the members of the Foundation Board.
